Gingerbread Gingerbread Rocks!
My Princess has many Christmas wishes I may not be able to grant them all but when it's a cooking , baking or a crafting wish this Mommy is the "sugar plum fairy". So we planned our gingerbread house using cardboard boxes , then we googled some recipe and tweaked it a bit we wanted gingerbread but not much spice . Below is the recipe we would like to share .
Gingerbread House
Ingredients :
100 grams of butter
1 cup of dark brown sugar
1 cup golden syrup
2 eggs beaten
4 cups plain flour
1 cup self raising flour
2 tablespoon ground ginger
1 tablespoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon baking soda
Decorations : candy canes , mini smarties or M&Ms, Sprikles and edible pearls and cachous .
To make : Add the sugar , butter in a small saucepan , stir over low heat until the butter is melted and mixture is smooth. Remove from heat and let it cool.
Sift all the dry ingredients flours , ginger, cinnamon and baking soda in a clean dry bowl . Set aside
Once the syrup and butter mixture have cooled down and in the eggs then add in the dry mixture of flour and spice. Give the dough a light knead that flatten into disk and place in the fridge for 1 hour .
While waiting for the dough make some glue, here's the recipe.
GingerBread Glue
Ingredients : 4 egg whites
4 cups of powdered sugar sifted
1 teaspoon cream of tartar
To make : In a large mixing bowl ( use the electric mixer with the whisk attachment ) beat the egg whites and cream of tartar until soft peaks , then gradually add the powdered sugar until all well blended. Place in piping bags with tips uncut and tie up the tops. Keep the rest in airtight container this glue dries fast and strong .
Preheat the oven to 180 degrees .
After an hour the dough is ready roll it in between two baking paper sheets and cut accordingly your template. Then lift it into a cookie sheet lined with baking paper . Bake in 150 degrees for 12-18 minutes ( cooking time may vary according to ovens ) watch carefully what's ideal is a golden colour.
Transfer into the wire racks to cool , once cooled down its ready to assemble . Glue the walls first then the roof last .
Set it on a plate , a cake board or in our case we have to use our cheese board :) .Then decorate with candy canes , sprinkles whatever you like to stick in using the sugar egg glue ! and tada !!!
