High above the Treetops of Southern Pielands

My hubby excitedly called me one friday afternoon, and announced " We have tickets to Treetops Adventure"courtesy of the company . Yey !I thought we are just going to Frenchs Forest or Plough and Harrow park. It turned out that this is the one in the Southern Highlands called Illawarra Fly Treetop Walk in the leafy town of Knights Bridge NSW . So Saturday morning before the crack of dawn we pulled the kids out of the bed into the car and off we drove on our way south. The drive south is picturesque and the weather is perfect , the highlands is perfect for winter adventure .

Illawarra Fly treetop walk was freakishly fun for the people like us who is kind of afraid of heights. Steel platform bridges was built on top of the forest trees . Theres a Knight tower with a dizzying spiral staircase reaching the top gives you a birds eye view of the beautiful southern lands. Ziplining cost extra and we have decided to just enjoy the " freebie " treetop walk and save the money for big lunch.

The big lunch we are after is to eat the pies along the "Pie Trail" , there's about 28 bakeries on the pie map. First stop was Robertson's pie shop this was the closest one from the treetops . We have ordered like a crazy hungry mob after all that scary walking from the treetop!

Curry , Steak and Mushroom, Chicken , Meat and Sausage roll . The Famous Robertson Pie Shop is really famous , bikies, families and tourist gather here it's must stop or else you can't say that you've been to the Southern Pielands . The crust is buttery almost like shortbread and the fillings are comforting like a warm hug after that scary walk . Truly scrumptious! please squeeze more sauce ......

The dessert berry pie has a secret dollop of whipped cream inside .

After pigging out from Robertson Pie shop , We have decided to space out for the next pie stop . So we opened the tourist information guide and found out that there's a place called Robertson Cheese Factory, the shop is in cluster of shops , there's a cafe and the Cool room - homeware shop of old things and new .

The Cheese Factory not only sells cheese but tons of lollies , jams and chutneys and the most delicious gelatos. After trying a few we have decided to finally get a pistachio on a waffle cone and cookies and cream in a tub.

We have to admit that the 28 pie stop is quite a mission impossible for 1/2 a day , we don't really like driving in the dark . So we travelled through the town of Berrima on the way home . Last stop we promised was the Market Place , where we found the Alpaca Centre

And next to it is more pies! by The Two Skinny Cooks . It is a larder full of delicious artisan products like sauces , jams , chutneys , pates and cured meats and cheese.

The"savoury " pies are warm while the "sweet"are cold.

The little ones are really no longer hungry and just want to play , when they saw the big playground across the market place . So we just " take away" Beef and Red wine pie, Chicken and leek and Steak and Mushroom . The pies are made by artists its so delicious and comes with handmade tomato sauce that's almost like chutney . The crust are flaky and crisp and the fillings are cooked with love you can feel it . The " beef broth " is better than coffee to wash down the pies .

We can't wait for next winter to continue our mission to follow the pie trail of the Southern Highlands .
