Port stephens ,Port Macquarie what's the difference ?
One of Jet's birthday wishes was to dig sand in the beach, he's quite crazy about tractors bulldozers and all the construction vehicles . For his "birthday weekend" , we want to make his birthday wish come true. It was last minute booking and since it's school holiday everything is pretty much taken i was able to book in a room using my corporate deal at the Oaks Pacific Blue resort at Port Stephens and a rom at Best Western Town beach , But oops! i just a made a major booking mistake . There is a big difference betweens Port Macquarie and Port Stephens it's about 218.3 km and 2 1/2 hours apart. Since I hate to raise phone disputes and refunds , I convinced everyone to just enjoy the road trip.
So we left Sydney early and drove up north after 2 hours and a half hours we reached Port Stephens, it was quite early to check into the hotel so we drove around and checked out the local attraction.
My daughter insist that we visit the Shell museum she read it on the visitor information map, we picked up on the way. I was quite surprised that the museum is located in a house , one avid collector have turned his collection into a museum.
I'm glad we stopped , I'm a supporter of family business like this, please come for a visit the entry fee is a gold coin donation. The kids picked up a basket of shell from the souvenir shop for show and tell, some of the shells on display came from my homeland Philippines !
After the shell museum visit it's time for some edible mollusk so we drove to Holberts Oyster Supplies .
It's a very picturesque place to eat and enjoy fresh oysters after 2 dozens, were ready to sleep so off we drove to the hotel.
Oaks Pacific Blue resort is one of the most amazing hotels we've ever been . The resort villas are connected by river like
swimming pool. Rooms opens up to a back porch that serves as access to the pool , kids had fun swimming around the resort.
Next day we have to say goodbye to this amazing place , we stopped by Medowie Macadamias and picked up a few snacks for the trip further north.
We also stopped by Ricardoes Tomatoes , to pick up strawberries however they are not in season, After grabbing a bite of the scone at the cafe , were back on the road to the north . I'll say this is one the greatest mistake I ever made! lesson learned : open google maps before making multiple accommodation bookings .
